Gourab Chatterjee
“Our journey to Sissu, Jispa and Kasol with Bhupinder Bhaiya was truly memorable. He had driven us through Kalpa and Kinnaur back in 2011, and after 15 years, we had no hesitation in reaching out to him again. From arranging our pickup at Delhi Airport to taking us to beautiful places like Deepak Taal, Suraj Taal and Baralacha La, he made the entire trip special. His excellent driving skills, knowledge of the region and sound judgement on mountain roads made us feel safe throughout. But what really sets him apart is his warm, jovial nature and wonderful temperament. He was never just our driver or guide; he was more like a travel companion who shared our excitement and made every journey enjoyable. We would happily travel with him again and highly recommend him to anyone planning a trip to the Himalayas!”

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Essential guidance on permits, altitude, booking, and road safety across Himachal and Uttarakhand circuits.

When is the best season to travel across the circuits?

Travel timing depends on the specific circuit. Popular routes like Himachal Classics, Kumaon, and Garhwal are ideal from March to June and September to November. High-altitude circuits like Kinnaur, Spiti, and Lahaul are accessible from May to October, with high mountain passes open by mid-June. Char Dham Yatra operates from April/May through October/November, with May, June, September, and October being peak months.

Are special permits or registrations required for these routes?

Indian citizens require no special permits for most Himachal, Kumaon, and Garhwal circuits. For Char Dham, biometric Yatra registration is mandatory, and assistance is provided with the registration process. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for border stretches in upper Kinnaur and Spiti. All documentation requirements are verified and confirmed before trip departure.

How should altitude sickness be prevented and managed?

Acclimatization is essential on high-elevation circuits including Spiti, Kinnaur, Lahaul, and high Char Dham shrines. Ascend gradually, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and rest well on arrival. If headaches, nausea, or dizziness persist, descending to lower altitudes is necessary. Travelers with pre-existing heart or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor prior to traveling.

What vehicles are arranged, and what is the recommended passenger capacity?

Vehicles are selected to match group size, terrain, and comfort preferences, ranging from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs, 4x4s, and Tempo Travellers. For passenger comfort and luggage on mountain roads, up to 4 passengers per car is recommended, up to 6 on select lower routes, and a maximum of 4 on rugged high-altitude routes like Spiti.

Can larger groups or tour operators be accommodated?

Yes, regular collaborations with travel agencies, corporate teams, and larger family groups are welcomed. Transport can be coordinated using multi-vehicle fleets or Tempo Travellers across Himachal, Uttarakhand, and All India circuits. Enquiries can be submitted by selecting "Tour operator / group" with travel dates, passenger count, and route preferences.

How does the payment process work?

A booking advance of 25% of the total quoted trip cost must be paid at least 7 days before the scheduled trip commencement date to confirm the booking. The remaining 75% is payable by the end of the trip, with no rigid payment milestones during the journey. Payments are accepted via UPI, bank transfer, or cash.

What is the cancellation policy?

The booking advance is fully refundable if the trip is cancelled at least 7 days before the scheduled commencement date. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the commencement date will result in the forfeiture of the booking advance, which is strictly non-refundable.

Does mobile network connectivity work along the circuits?

Coverage is reliable across popular circuits like Himachal Classics, Kumaon, and lower Garhwal, with Airtel and Jio offering consistent 4G and 5G signals. In deeper valleys such as Spiti, upper Kinnaur, and high pilgrimage sectors, connectivity becomes intermittent, with BSNL and Jio offering the best reliability. Downloading offline maps in advance is strongly recommended.

Are fuel stations and ATMs easily available on the road?

Towns across Himachal Classics, Kumaon, and lower Garhwal feature regular fuel stations and functional ATMs, with UPI widely accepted. In higher valleys like Spiti, upper Kinnaur, and high mountain passes, fuel outlets are spaced far apart and ATMs frequently experience cash shortages or network downtime. Carrying adequate cash for meals and incidental expenses is recommended.

Can mountain roads close or itineraries change due to weather?

Yes, Himalayan roads can experience temporary closures due to landslides, monsoon rain, or sudden snowfall. Itineraries always incorporate sensible buffer time, and daily routes are adjusted flexibly on the ground to ensure passenger safety and smooth travel.

What is included in the trip quote?

The trip quote covers the arranged vehicle, an experienced mountain driver and host, fuel, state road taxes, toll charges, and parking fees. Exclusions include guest accommodation (unless arranged as part of the itinerary), meals, monument or temple entry fees, inner-line permits where applicable, and personal expenses.

Can children and senior citizens travel comfortably on these circuits?

Yes, circuits like Himachal Classics, Kumaon, and lower Garhwal are gentle, scenic, and well suited for families with children and senior citizens. High-altitude circuits like Spiti, Kinnaur, and high Char Dham shrines involve thinner air and steep walks, so seniors and families should consult a physician and allow extra days for gradual acclimatization.

How much luggage can be accommodated?

Luggage space corresponds to the vehicle arranged for the group. Stating the passenger count and baggage volume during enquiry ensures the appropriate vehicle is recommended. For mountain roads, soft duffel bags and backpacks fit into vehicle boots far more efficiently than rigid hard-shell suitcases.

Are clean restrooms available along the route?

Along popular tourist circuits like Himachal Classics and Kumaon, clean restrooms are readily found at highway restaurants, hotels, and fuel stations. On remote routes like Spiti or upper Kinnaur, facilities are simpler and rely on local dhabas and homestays. Carrying personal hygiene essentials, including hand sanitizer and wipes, is recommended.

How is motion sickness managed on winding mountain roads?

Winding Himalayan roads can occasionally trigger motion sickness. Recommended precautions include taking prescribed anti-nausea medication 30 minutes before departure, eating a light meal, and informing the driver to maintain a calm pace, take regular scenic stops, and keep fresh air circulating inside the cabin.

What happens in the event of a medical emergency?

Passenger safety is the highest priority. In case of illness, the itinerary is paused and routed to the nearest clinic or hospital. Well-equipped medical facilities are readily available in Himachal Classics and Uttarakhand towns. In remote valleys like Spiti and Kinnaur, local primary health centres provide emergency care, with immediate descent coordinated if altitude relief is needed.
